This past weekend the Bellevue boys swim team took the 4th place trophy at the State Championship Meet. They were led by Brian Lee, State Champion in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. He set the State record in the 100-yard butterfly and was named the 3A State Swimmer of the Meet. Booster Club Volunteers for next year
A great big thank you to Judy Lee, Elizabeth Westburg and Karen Skalski for their service to our Boys Swive Booster Club these past few years. As their boys will be graduating this spring, we desperately need volunteers to fill these important roles to ensure our team continues to get the support it needs. Ideally, parents of a freshman or sophomore. And thank you to Bob Frazer’s mom, Lisa Cabreza, who has volunteered to be our club treasurer and apparel contact next season!

The sooner you reach out and let us know that you’re interested, the more time these delightful, friendly, and generous women will have to relay the information you’ll need to continue their good work. You can reach out to them directly with questions or reply to this email and I’ll put you in touch.

Thank you in advance! Please reach out to Judy Lee by email or cell 425-999-0068 if you’re interested in learning more about any of the following roles:
  • President: Coordinate with other parent volunteers, communicate with coaches, help plan team events, fill in as volunteer when needed, attend Umbrella Booster meetings a couple of times during the season.
  • Photographer: Have a camera with a nice zoom lens? Please take photos at swim meets to post on our website.
  • Senior Night: We need one parent to plan and prepare gifts for our graduating seniors to be presented at Senior Night, at last home meet next season.

2021-22 Swim and Dive Season Begins

11/28/2021

How exciting to be back to a full regular season of swim and dive this year! My name is Heather, I will be communicating for our Booster Club. My son Jude is a junior and has been on the team since his freshman year. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

This Week
  • Team Suit order forms are DUE THIS FRIDAY, 12/03. Please take a moment now to order your boy’s team competition suit.
  • Scoreboard Training Opportunity: Tuesday, 11/30 at 7:00 PM. Our home pool, Mary Wayte in Mercer Island, is offering a training session for anyone interested in volunteering to run the scoreboard at our two home meets this season. (And next year, too, hopefully!) This is a great opportunity for a new volunteer to be trained, particularly for a parent of a freshman or sophomore to take on. Please reach out to Coach Michael if you’re interested or have questions.

Volunteer Requirements
Other than our coaches, swim team runs on parent volunteers. A list of our open positions for this season is below. Please take a moment to review and see where you would be willing and able to help out.

All parent volunteers are required to please register with BSD and send a copy of your Covid vaccination card to the BHS Athletics Secretary, KMayer if you will be doing any in-person volunteering at meets, team dinners, etc.

Home Meet Volunteers
Please sign up here for meet volunteering and booster club roles.
Our team is responsible to fill the following positions at our home meets. The meet will not be able to happen without these roles being filled. They’re a great way to get to know the sport and be close to the action!
  • Meet Announcer (2): Call the events so swimmers know when to come stand on deck, and what event is on the blocks. Ideally, someone who has attended swim meets in the past, however anyone interested please reach out and we will get you trained! We will need your help at one or both of our home meets.
  • Official / Stroke and Turn Judge (2): This is a position that requires certified training. If you trained during summer league with Midlakes, or a club team and are USA Certified, we will need your help at one or both of our home meets.
  • Scoreboard and Computer Operators (2): Ideally, a two-person job. Please see scoreboard training opportunity above. We will need your help at both of our home meets.
  • Lane Timers (multiple): No experience necessary, we can train new people at the meet. You’ll stand at the block-end of the pool with a stopwatch and a clip board. When the light/buzzer goes off, start the watch. When the swimmer in your lane touches the wall at the end of their event, stop the watch and record their time. Easy! We will need your help at one or both of our home meets.

Booster Club Volunteers
  • Bellevue Blast (1): Submit team news (meet results, announcements) to be included in the Bellevue Blast email that goes out to the whole school.
  • Photographer (2): Have a camera with a nice zoom lens? Please take photos at swim meets to post on our website.
  • Senior Night: Gifts (1): We need one parent to help Karen this season and be ready to take over next year. Prepare gifts for our graduating seniors to be presented at Senior Night, at last home meet (01/13/22).
  • End of the year Banquet (2): We need two parents to help Karen plan and execute the banquet this season and be ready to take over next year. This position requires securing a location (at BHS cafeteria or off-site location), ordering food, and decorating.
  • Team suit and Apparel (filled): Team Captains’ parents will coordinate ordering and distribution, as the captains are responsible to design the new swim suits, caps, and apparel each season.
  • Team jackets and swim parkas (2): Distribute and sign out team jackets and parkas to swimmers in the beginning of the season and collect them at the end of the season.
  • Treasurer (1): We need a parent to shadow Elizabeth this year and take over next year. Collect the booster club donations, provide reimbursements to parents for purchases (team dinners, events, senior gifts), prepare annual budget, track expenditures and submit annual income/expense report, and attend Umbrella Booster meetings couple of times during the season.
  • President (1): We need someone to shadow Judy this season and be ready to take over next year. Coordinate with other parent volunteers, communicate with coaches, help plan team events, fill in as volunteer when needed, attend Umbrella Booster meetings a couple of times during the season.
  • Team Dinner Hosts (2): We are a little unclear as to where we can host these two team dinners (the night before a Home meet, following practice). It may be a “grab & go” bag or host dinner at an outdoor setting the night before each home meets as long as BSD approves (will post details in SignUp Genius once we know what we are able to do).

Booster Club Donations
The suggested Booster Club donation per swimmer is $175. We greatly appreciate your support of our program and your swimmer as we aim for 100% participation. Donations this season will go towards 15 new swim team jackets, senior gifts, coach gifts, updating pool/training equipment, team dinners and the end of season banquet. Part of your donation this season will help us support SplashForward’s effort in building a world-class regional aquatics center on the Eastside. BHS Boys Swim and Dive donated $1500 to SplashForward end of last season. Please visit splashforward.org for more information.

Please review the attached donation form and mail the check and form to Elizabeth, our team treasurer. And don’t forget to check with your workplace to see if they match donations so we get the most from your contribution!

Team Suit and Apparel Order Form
Our team captains have designed a great new suit and cap for this season. Please find the attached order form with instructions for payment and submitting. Swimmers are required to wear our team suit (preferably this season’s, but not required to be the latest), and swimmers are not allowed to wear a suit from another club.

For your quick reference throughout the season, you can find our swim and dive meet schedule on our Team Website. I will also archive these communications on the Home > Boys Home.

We are still missing email addresses from about 25 families, so if you know someone new to the team, please forward this and let them know they need to respond to Heather to be added to our distribution list. The Coaches are not allowed to give us the contacts they have, so parents must proactively opt-in to receive updates from the Booster Club regarding events, dinners, and volunteering.

Go Wolverines!
